SAM: System for Award Management

SAM is the United States Government’s System for Award Management. Organizations who wish to do business with the U.S. government must be registered with the SAM online database. To register with this Federal Government database, registrants must have a DUNS number as well as a Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) code. SAM requires organizations to update and confirm their profiles at least once a year to maintain accurate information.

See VMAC’s SAM profile, DUNS number and NCAGE code.

DUNS: Data Universal Numbering System

DUNS, or Data Universal Numbering System, is a proprietary system developed and regulated by Dun and Bradstreet (D&B). This system assigns a unique 9-digit DUNS number to a single business entity. Lenders and possible business partners can reference a company’s DUNS number to help forecast the company’s financial stability and reliability. DUNS numbers are used globally, and over 265 million businesses have been assigned DUNS numbers. VMAC has been assigned its own DUNS number, which is also the first step in obtaining a CAGE code.

CAGE: Commercial and Government Entity Code

A Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) code is assigned by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Logistics Agency (DLA) and used within the NATO community. A CAGE code is assigned to provide standardization and easy identification of a given legal entity at a defined location. As an international registrant, with a location outside of the United States, VMAC has been assigned a 5-character NATO CAGE number. A CAGE code is a necessary for all organizations looking to be awarded contracts with the United States’ Department of Defense and other U.S. Government agencies. Once the CAGE code has been approved, it will be uploaded in SAM’s online database.
