VMAC is looking for an intermediate level engineer with a background in mechanical or industrial engineering. The position in part of VMAC’s OEM development team which is focused on expanding VMAC’s presence in the industrial equipment market. The incumbent reports to the OEM Department Manager and will be responsible for developing product designs in a collaborative environment, producing technical product documentation, constructing equipment as well as coordinating project activities.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate within the Engineering department and across all departments to achieve targets set by the management team to meet strategic goals of the company and realize business growth.

As the team lead in the CMM group, you will coordinate day-to-day operations with the guidance of Quality Assurance Supervisor and manage CMM dependent production schedule to drive productivity in a timely manner and with focus on quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
CMM Activities Planning and Co-ordination
- Ensure that the CMM group is utilizing current tooling, jigs, fixtures, and drawings to meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements and goals
- Lead development of CMM applications and other metrology tools at VMAC to meet our quality goals.
- Establish high performance standards for CMM programming, measurement, and effectivity of our part measurements to assure quality and help determine our process capability to produce parts.
- Schedule workflow through the CMMs to optimize equipment utilization and support production requirements
- Determine methods and options to CMM inspection to reduce equipment bottlenecks.
Product Evaluation and Non-Conformance Management
- Conduct annual MSAs (Measurement System Analysis) studies on all measurements methods used to verify special characteristics

- Identify non-conformances and collaborate with stakeholders to determine immediate resolution actions
- Participate in resolving quality problems including internal, suppliers and customers.
Inspection and Quality Control
- Support Quality and Production Teams with inspection procedures and test preparations and plan

- Provide support to source inspection and sub-contracting process audits.
Quality Management System
- Ensure compliance and assist with adherence to the Quality Management system considering customer requirements while monitoring product quality level

To maintain and develop new manufacturing methods and capability to deliver VMAC compressor components and products to meet specifications, and total cost of ownership targets. Bringing experience and knowledge in both low and high-volume precision production environments to enhance our capability at VMAC to support high volume production for the emerging EV market.
Position Specific Duties
- Contribute to setting specification standards for engineering drawings to assure manufacturing and quality standards can be fully derived and that the specification thoroughly defines components.
- Take responsibility for leading the planning and proposals for improvements and their execution upon approval. Implement systems and processes in collaboration with Quality and Manufacturing leaders to control the production quality.
- Be an active participant in new R&D product development projects and works to develop capability to manufacture new rotors and related VRP components or assemblies to assure production readiness. Conversely, act as a gatekeeper to assure new designs are not undertaken or progressed that are not manufacturable.
- Develop new product and engineering change minimum release deliverables (standards, specifications, information packages, formats) from engineering to assure new designs and changes can be accepted by VRP and used to manage manufacturing to meet cost and quality targets.
- Technical analysis of manufacturability of new rotors and related compressor designs and development of tools and processes for assuring process capability is verifiable or can be developed in accordance with product release timelines.
- Leading cross departmental activities and proposing solutions (training, equipment, tools, services, processes, and facilities) to assure VRP manufacturing can meet quality and cost targets for new and existing products. Subject to approval executing such proposals.
- Validate existing and new equipment and processes, perform a sensitivity analysis and process capability analysis.
- Work with the Product Quality Engineering to set the standard for quality control and lead the definition of required quality processes necessary for sustaining quality and continuous improvements.
- Design and/or manage new tooling development for manufacturing, measuring and test purposes.
- Develop an understanding of the required standard for specifications, product/component performance, manufacturability of the design, manufacturing process capability and quality measurement to ensure these are fully considered in all decisions determining the output of VMAC’s product development of compressor air ends and their components.
- Technical liaison with outside contractors/services as applicable
- Build production engineering documentation as part of the QMS to control and document detailed steps to define the approved manufacturing process for critical components (such as rotors) and assemblies. Authorize and document changes as necessary in accordance with an approved process.
- Create documentation using Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, & M2M.
- Ensure full engineering practices, compliance with recognized standards and testing procedures are adhered to.
- Be proficient in Solid Modeling and Microsoft Office. Have a working knowledge of various manufacturing processes, general machining, CNC programming and fabrication techniques. Have strong analytical decision-making and organizational skills. Operational knowledge and experience with conventional machine tools, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
- A specialized knowledge and experience in forging, CNC precision machining, precision assembly, and other related metal alloy manufacturing processes are highly desirable.
