Quality Assurance Inspector

We currently have an opening for a full-time Quality Assurance Inspector to add value to our Quality team. Reporting to the Director of Continuous Improvement and under the direct guidance of the Quality Assurance Supervisor, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring QA processes are effective, and the products being produced conform to VMAC standards and customer’s requirements.

This role is suitable for mid-level experienced candidates who have had experience in quality assurance roles and practical hands on experience with inspection of parts, preferably with mechanical or machined parts within a fast-paced manufacturing/machine shop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform incoming, in-process and final inspections in accordance with Quality Assurance procedures and instructions. These may include:
    • Sampling, visual evaluation, testing, and measuring of incoming materials, manufactured components or finished products.
    • Performing First Article Inspection for suppliers’ parts, manufactured components, and finished products.
    • Performing In-Process Inspection of manufactured components.
    • Performing Final Assembly Inspection.
  • Identify any Quality (manufacturing) issues and work with production teams to resolve them, ensuring Quarantine procedures are followed.
  • Shipping and tracking of parts and products – outbound
  • Follow all manufacturing assembly drawings, procedures, and instructions, all company’s policies and ISO 9001 standard requirements.
  • Analyze reports interpreting, compiling and organizing testing and measuring data. Utilize the data to apply problem solving techniques when applicable.
  • Lead problem solving opportunities and projects.
  • Complete all applicable quality records, maintain and update database and filing system.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and compliance of company’s Quality Management System and Quality Policy.
  • Perform diverse types of quality audits (product, process, etc.), as per the Internal Audit program.
  • Perform calibration of precision measuring equipment, prepare/ maintain calibration records and update database.
  • Apply Lean tools and concepts to improve processes in the QA department and other areas of the organization.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Awareness of ISO-9001:2008.

  • Knowledge of Machining, Casting, Fabricating.
  • Knowledge in measuring techniques, gauging and inspection equipment required. Ability in the use of Calipers, Micrometers, all Gauges, and standard inspection tools.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, etc.).
  • Effective and respectful oral and written communication with the ability to adapt to the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
  • Proven knowledge of Quality and Lean tools and concepts, preferably with practical application experience.

Electrical/Electronics/Firmware Engineer or Technologist

VMAC is looking for a junior to intermediate level engineer or technologist with a background in electrical, electronics, software and/or mechatronics engineering.

The position will be focused on the development of digital controls for VMAC’s vehicle integrated products. The incumbent reports to the Engineering Manager and will be responsible for developing product designs in a collaborative environment, constructing and testing prototypes, as well as coordinating project activities.

The position requires the candidate to be capable in an electrical/electronics/firmware-oriented design process from conceptualization, through development, analysis and refinement, to implementation and commercialization as well as engaging in continuous improvement. The candidate will need to utilize a working knowledge of automotive electronics principles, CAN-bus communications, digital electronics hardware design, microcontroller firmware design, as well as associated manufacturing techniques to balance company cost with customer value.

Responsibilities

  • Be an engaged member of the company’s LEAN culture.
  • Collaborate within the Engineering department and across all departments to achieve targets set by the management team to meet strategic goals of the company and realize business growth.
  • Work directly with the sales and marketing department to ensure features of new and existing product lines are providing value to the customer.
  • Act as technical liaison with internal and external customer and suppliers as required.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate status to stakeholders throughout the duration of a project.
  • Be proficient in engineering principles and design techniques including traditional theory, manual calculation solutions and software solutions.
  • Employ fundamental engineering principles and LEAN design techniques to develop and maintain core electronics and controls for all product families.
  • Construct, install, modify and repair prototypes and test apparatuses (hands-on engineering).
  • Implement knowledge of manufacturing processes to bolster the robustness of products as well as efficiency and productivity within the facility.
  • Consider the full product life-cycle during design addressing reliability and serviceability requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with recognized standards and testing procedures.
  • Employ thorough analysis methodology and strong analytical decision-making in all aspects of
    engineering activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Electrical/Electronics/Firmware engineer or technologist degree or diploma (or equivalent) from an accredited institution of good standing is required.
  • Demonstrated C-based programming experience is required.
  • Demonstrated electronics hardware design experience, especially PIC microcontrollers, is required.
  • Strong hands-on aptitude is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English is required.
  • A high-energy work ethic, high independent initiative as well as a positive, collaborative, team-oriented attitude is required.
  • 1 – 3 years of relevant industry work experience is preferred. Other experience levels will be considered.
  • Experience with automotive electronics is preferred.
  • Demonstrated competence with low voltage (i.e. 12V) wiring, connector and harness design is preferred.
  • Experience with applying and troubleshooting electronic controls is preferred.
  • Experience with CAN-bus or similar automotive communication protocol is preferred.
  • 3D modelling and drafting experience (e.g. Solidworks) is preferred.
  • Experience with electronics hardware design software is preferred.
  • Project management experience is an asset.
  • Lean manufacturing training or experience is an asset.
  • Experience with air compressors or high-pressure systems is an asset.

OEM Mechanical Engineer or Technologist

VMAC is looking for a junior to intermediate level engineer or technologist with a background in mechanical or industrial engineering. The position in part of VMAC’s OEM development team which is focused on expanding VMAC’s presence in the industrial equipment market. The incumbent reports to the OEM Department Manager and will be responsible for developing product designs in a collaborative environment, producing technical product documentation, constructing equipment as well as coordinating project activities.

The position requires the candidate to be capable in the mechanical design process from conceptualization, through development, analysis and refinement, to implementation and commercialization as well as engaging in continuous improvement. The incumbent must employ a working knowledge of industrial equipment and manufacturing techniques to balance company cost with customer value.
