2025 VMAC Golf Tournament Recap

VMAC colleagues recently traded their desks and tool belts for golf clubs and greens as we hosted our annual VMAC Golf Tournament. The sun was shining, the grass was perfectly manicured at Cottonwood Golf Course, and the only thing more satisfying than sinking a birdie was watching coworkers celebrate each other’s successes - both on the course and off. It’s always refreshing to see the team mix a bit of friendly competition with genuine camaraderie, and this year was no exception.

Tournament Highlights

  • Friendly Rivalries & Team Spirit: From the very first tee-off, laughter and good-natured trash talk echoed across the fairways. Departments teamed up for best-ball format, leading to some surprisingly strategic pairings that included two best dressed golfers award leading the way as Brent and Gord donned their kilt and sporran (man purse). Yolande and her team’s attempt at precision tee shots was almost as entertaining as their victory dance when they sank a long putt. Mike’s team showed their fortitude as they carefully balanced snacking while golfing and listening to the Stanley Cup playoff game on any available device.

  • Moments to Remember:
    • Playing the golf tournament in scorching temperatures that topped 32.7°C, making every player a true champion for surviving the heat.
    • The impromptu “longest drive” contest: let’s just say the landscaping survived intact, but the bragging rights lived on.
    •  The 9th hole debrief: over cold drinks and grill-fired snacks, stories of near-misses and “almosts” were recounted with gusto, proof that sometimes the best shots happen off the scorecard.

  • Embracing Tradition, Looking Forward: Many of us have been part of VMAC tournaments in past years, so changing to a 9-hole format instead of an 18-hole format (especially in the sweltering heat) was met with overwhelming support. At the same time, seeing new outfits (and new swing styles such as Idjen’s one-legged drives due to an unfortunate injury prior to the event), reminds us that our VMAC traditions continue to grow and evolve.

A Big Thank You to Our Sponsors:

We wouldn’t have been able to make this event as memorable without the generous support of our sponsors. Your contributions not only elevated the experience but reinforced the community spirit that makes events like this possible.

  • Motion: Tyler outdid himself again this year with amazing prizes: a premium golf bag, a sleek putter, and several boxes of Callaway and Srixon golf balls. It’s safe to say several players left dreaming of perfect swings equipped with these top-tier items.
  • Fastenal: Thank you for providing golf grab bags filled with golf goodies. These little bundles added an extra layer of excitement and served as a fun surprise for participants.
  •  Uline: Your golf prizes were very much appreciated by everyone. Whether used on the green or proudly displayed at the office afterwards, these items helped underscore how much our broader network supports VMAC and our team-building efforts. Tamara was beyond thrilled to win the travel bag!
  • Cintas: Thank you so much for supplying fantastic prizes that not only added excitement and camaraderie at tables where winners sat and reinforced the strong relationship we’ve built over the years. Your generosity doesn’t go unnoticed.

It’s not just about the tangible prizes - though those were fantastic - but about the message it sends: that our partners believe in fostering relationships, celebrating teamwork, and having fun together.

To everyone who joined us this year, thank you for bringing your energy, your swings, and your spirit. To our sponsors - Motion, Fastenal, Uline, and Cintas, thank you for making the day exceptional. Here’s to many more rounds together, both on the course and in the office. Keep practicing those swings, and we’ll see you at next year’s tee-off!
