VMAC Takes the Leap at the Toss The Boss Event
On October 3, Rafael Marcao, VMAC’s Director of Enterprise Excellence, swapped his work boots for a bungee harness and jumped straight into one of Nanaimo’s most unique community traditions: Toss the Boss at WildPlay.
Toss the Boss is a high-energy annual event that brings together local businesses, leaders, and teams for a day of fun, courage, and camaraderie. Bosses take a daring bungee leap from WildPlay’s 150-foot bridge while supporters cheer them on. The event is equal parts adrenaline and laughter, and this year Rafael took his turn at the edge, stepping off the platform with courage, a great outfit, and a smile.
The Big Jump
With coworkers, friends, and fellow teams gathered around, Rafael climbed to the top of the bridge and took his place at the platform. The countdown began, the crowd roared, and in one unforgettable moment, Rafael leapt into the air, arms wide, as the bungee cord stretched and snapped him back up again.
The energy was electric. Teammates and spectators erupted with cheers, proud to see Raf embrace the challenge in true VMAC style. It was the kind of moment that reminds us what community spirit, and a little daring, can look like.
About The Event
Toss the Boss isn’t just about the thrill of the jump; it’s about making a difference. The event is organized in support of the Nanaimo Brain Injury Society (NBIS), a local organization that provides vital programs and services for adults living with acquired brain injuries, as well as their families and caregivers. NBIS helps individuals rebuild skills, regain independence, and find community after life-changing injuries. Toss the Boss shines a spotlight on their important work while offering the community a chance to rally together in a big, bold way.
Community In Action
Beyond the jump, the afternoon was a celebration of leadership, teamwork, and community. From the nervous anticipation on the bridge deck to the excitement of seeing bosses leap into action, Toss the Boss 2025 was filled with unforgettable moments.
For VMAC, Rafael’s leap was more than just a thrilling moment - it reflected our values: courage, teamwork, and giving back to the community that supports us. Participating in Toss the Boss was a proud reminder that leadership is sometimes about taking a leap (literally) and showing that we are willing to step up for the things that matter.
Raf’s jump at Toss the Boss will go down as a highlight of 2025, and we couldn’t be prouder of the way he represented VMAC. Congratulations, Rafael - you truly took the leap in style and even made Santa proud!
